EDD Shoot 2017_0156-final-2-bw

Hope everyone’s having a lovely summer (despite some of the rainy weather we’ve been having in the UK).. Hopefully some of you are holidaying in beautiful paradise reading this whilst sipping on a chilled Mojito on a beach… If not, don’t be sad. I’m sitting at home with a bad back doing admin and waiting for my next adventure gig to come in, but my delicious lunch has cheered me right up…;)

It’s been an eventful few months since my last update tho to say the least. Big charity gigs with Incognito at Jazz Cafe, our delicious Ladonna Harley-Peters (from Lasharvu) got married (now Ladonna Young) with a very star studded wedding guest list indeed. Can you believe what Sam Smith said to me (admittedly after a few beverages): “ Soul Family is what made me realise that ‘this is what I really wanna do’ when I went to see them at Ronnie’s with my dad when I was 16 years old!!’

Pretty cool, ey?
I’ll be using that quote for a while I reckon…
Speaking of Soul Family… We’re working on an EP due for release around November time, so finally you’ll be able to get your hands on some of those songs we’ve been singing at our gigs every month.
Here are some little giggies I’ve been crossing off my list:

I’ve been doing some wondrous shows with my straight ahead jazz outfit the ‘Ronnie Scott’s All Stars’ and we’ve been up and down the country touring our ‘Soho Songbook’ show. The dates for this popular event are flooding in fast, so keep an eye out and check in on my website to see if we’re coming to a cosy little theatre near you…

I was also the featured artist and guest curator for a brilliant night called ‘Voices Now’ at the Roundhouse (and got to sing the most incredible arrangement of Bjork’s ‘Hyperballad’ with the Roundhouse choir… hopefully there’ll be some footage somewhere soon), I played the wonderful Marciac and Dinant Jazz Festivals last month with the Eric Legnini band, played Meraki Festival in St Albans with Soul Family and look forward to another (already long sold out) Soul Family Sunday for this August bank holiday weekend.

I’m excited to say that even though I won’t be releasing a full originals record this year, I am going to be recording a brand spanking new Christmas album in time for our December Christmas shows at Ronnie’s! A mix of jazzed up classic carols, popular xmas ditties and a few originals in there for good measure.

There I’ve said it now, so I have to do it!! Haha
I’m also pleased to say that my album ‘Where You Are’ is now back in print, so I’ll be selling them at gigs and through my website if anyone’s interested in purchasing a hard copy…
Oh and not forgetting my brand new 10 year anniversary Soul Family merch in the form of T-shirts and tea towels (I figured every household can use one of those, so why not???…)
All of these are up for grabs through my website or at a live show of course.

May News

Sorry for the lack of communication, but I figured you’d all prefer not to be inundated, but only get the news when it’s worthy of hearing.
We’ve had some rough times recently… The utterly atrocious bombing in Manchester arena (where I play with the Young Voices concerts in January) and a terror attack in Paris when I was playing just around the corner near the Champs Elysée… very scary stuff indeed!!!
… you just never know what’s gonna happen and now is the time to stick together and show strength and love for each other more than ever before!!!
I will, as most of my amazing musician friends, still continue playing and gigging in all these amazing venues and keep doing what we do best and hopefully the shows will bring some joy and hope to the people who come down.
Music is a very powerful thing and can be very healing, as I’m sure you all know… otherwise you wouldn’t be on my mailing list in the first place..;)
As some of you that follow me on Facebook and Instagram etc may be aware of, I have started touring with the amazing pianist Eric Legnini.
BAND
We met many moons ago on French drummer, Manu Katché’s tv show, ‘One Shot Not’ (like a French Jools Holland kinda thing) and have found each again many moons later to perform music from his recent album ‘Waxx Up’. I’ve been performing in some brilliant venues to some very enthusiastic French jazz and soul music lovers and I’m delighted to say we’ve booked a one off gig at Pizza Express, Dean Street, Soho, on the 15th June, just so you know what all the fuss is about.
Natalie Williams
His music is beautifully melodic, incredible soulful and his piano playing is out of this world.
We will be joined by my other (and better) half Robin Mullarkey on bass and the amazing gospel drummer (currently playing with Emeli Sandé), Dexter Hercules.
Do come down and join us for night of stunning brand new music!!

Soul Family Sunday has been going from strength to strength and the band and guests have been utterly burning every single month
We have finally started recording our new collaborative songs, so keep checking in to see how we’re getting along.
First release will be in time for the London Jazz Festival!!! Wohoooo!!!!

6th June – guesting with Incognito at Jazz Cafe
11th June – Ronnie Scott’s All Stars ‘Soho Songbook’, Kingston, Rose Theatre
18th June – Soul Family Sunday at Ronnie Scott’s featuring the incredible Vanessa Haynes

A Little Bit of Christmas….

Fran Hardcastle : December 4, 2016 10:44 am : NewsItems

Hello Everyone!

It’s that time of year again! Seasonal Greetings to you all.

Here’s a little Christmas cheer from me to you. My friend, the amazing singer songwriter, Neil Thomas and I thought it would be fun to write a new seasonal song with a nice message…

Unfortunately we wrote it too late in the day to do a posh video and official release and we’re actually hoping that a proper real life ‘pop star’ might wanna sing it at some point next year (at Christmas ideally)…

In the meantime I thought I’d release it on Bandcamp for a mere £2 (or more if you’re feeling generous) for you to enjoy. I’ll be performing it at my various Christmas shows this year as well, so if you heard it on a gig, liked it and ended up on this site, then you’ve come to the right place.

For every payment received I would like to donate 50% of the profit to
help support children refugees in the form of phone credit, so they can at least try and stay in touch with loved ones separated from them…

mydonate.bt.com/charities/phonecreditforrefugees

Every little helps. And a little bit of Christmas goes a long way.
Thanks you so much for your support.
xxx Nat
